HARRISBURG — The Gift Card Fraud Prevention Alliance (GCFPA) is proud to announce that Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is joining as the second attorney general strategic partner, continuing the momentum in the fight against gift card fraud. As Attorney General Sunday highlights in this video, consumers need to be aware that scammers are targeting gift cards so that they can shop smart and protect themselves and their loved ones from gift card fraud.

This partnership underscores the Alliance’s mission to bring together leaders from law enforcement, retail, gift card networks, and consumer advocacy groups nationwide, united to protect consumers from the rapidly evolving threat of gift card scams.

“Protecting consumers and businesses from scammers and other bad actors is a priority, as organized retail crime triggers a domino effect with consumers ultimately paying more for goods,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said. “I am proud to partner with the Gift Card Fraud Prevention Alliance and recognize that keeping goods affordable for Pennsylvanians enables businesses to thrive and strengthens our economy.”

Attorney General Sunday’s commitment to consumer protection and public safety makes him a vital addition to the Alliance. With extensive experience combating fraud and championing educational initiatives, his leadership will strengthen collaborative efforts to prevent gift card scams and hold perpetrators accountable.

“The Pennsylvania Retailers’ Association has strongly supported the establishment of and continued support for the Pennsylvania Organized Retail Crime Unit within the Attorney General’s Office,” said John Holub, President of the Pennsylvania Retailers Association. “We are thrilled to support this alliance that strengthens our fight against new forms of ORC impacting both retailers and Pennsylvania consumers.”

As part of the GCFPA, Attorney General Sunday will work alongside Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and other stakeholders to advance public awareness campaigns, share best practices, and enhance enforcement strategies to safeguard communities in Pennsylvania and across the United States.

“The inclusion of Attorney General Sunday marks an important step forward in building a united front against gift card fraud and organized retail crime,” said Lisa LaBruno, Executive Director, RILA Communities Foundation. “His dedication to consumer protection and commitment to collaboration will be instrumental as we work together to hold criminal rings accountable and protect individuals from the devastating impact of gift card fraud.”

The GCFPA, operated by the Retail Industry Leaders Association Communities Foundation, continues to expand its coalition and facilitate unprecedented collaboration among public and private sectors.
